the end of drone deliveries? long live drone deliveries!
In an example of a bad headline, this article is headlined “Amazon ends California drone deliveries“. But in the first paragraph, you learn they are discontinuing them in one particular town where they have been pilot testing them. There could be any number of political or bureaucratic reasons for this. And in the third paragraph, you learn they are starting them elsewhere, in this case in a…

Map: Envisioning a More Connected Detroit
by: Dan Seiderman One of my biggest complaints about navigating Detroit is how disconnected the streets are. On foot, by bike, or in a car, getting around the city can be unnecessarily confusing because of the division caused by the freeways, the mash-up of different grid systems, and the inconsistent development patterns.  In addition to my personal experience, a lot of the inspiration for…

Downtown streets shouldn't be dominated by cars
by Darin Givens 4/2/2025
Tumblr media
Here's a photo of Downtown Atlanta in 1915, looking north on Forsyth Street from Marietta Street. Two large buildings from this image are still standing: The Healey & The Grant.
The built environment of Atlanta's Downtown was not always dominated by personal cars being driven in from around the metro area. For many years, this place was oriented toward the multi-modal traffic, as you can see in the activity at street level in this photo (including an electric streetcar & horse-pulled wagons).
Back then, visitors had to adjust to the big city -- which is the way it should be. But over the last few decades, we've adjusted the city fabric itself to accommodate visitors arriving in personal cars. The most inefficient form of transportation, both in its roadway usage and its storage needs, has been allowed to dominate a place that truly needs efficient uses of space.
In the process, Downtown ends up losing the unique qualities that can make it a great environment for walking.
Tumblr media
The second image shows the same view (as best as I could manage). Lanes for cars are all you see on the roadway. It's not very inviting. Downtown deserves better from us, and we deserve a better Downtown.

More than a dozen community and advocacy groups are joining forces against a $900 million “Five Bridges Project” to “transform” the Cross Bronx Expressway. That project, which Gov. Kathy Hochul announced in January, aims to repair five bridges along the Cross Bronx Expressway. Key to the project is a “multi-modal connector” — temporary new roadways to keep traffic flowing that would then become permanent bus, bike and pedestrian lanes alongside the highway. A $150 million federal grant is helping pay for the project. The coalition of Bronx and transit groups — including the Bronx River Alliance, Transportation Alternatives, Riders Alliance, Bronx Community Board 6, The Point CDC, Nos Quedamos and Morning Glory Community Garden — is calling on the governor to abandon the state Department of Transportation’s plan and find a way to repair those bridges without building those additional lanes, which they say would increase air pollution and stormwater runoff. Several of the groups had called on the state in July to slow down its ambitious and expensive plan to allow for more community input; now, they’re outright opposing it. The shift came after U.S. Reps. Ritchie Torres and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, both Democrats, last week sent a letter to Hochul saying they are “strongly opposed to the direction in which the project is trending,’ and arguing that “large infrastructure projects, however massive, should have the buy-in of local leaders to benefit those living in the community.”

The Best Newark Transit (Updated 2024)
Navigating a bustling city like Newark requires a reliable and efficient transit system, and Newark’s options do not disappoint. As one of New Jersey’s most significant urban centers, Newark offers a robust mix of public and private transportation options catering to both residents and visitors. With 2024 bringing exciting updates, the city’s transit system is more connected and sustainable than ever. Whether you’re commuting to work, exploring landmarks, or catching a flight, Newark’s transit network ensures seamless mobility.
Overview of Newark Transit Options
Newark boasts a variety of transit modes, from public buses and trains to modern micro-mobility solutions. Here’s an overview:
Public Transit Services
Public transportation forms the backbone of Newark’s transit network. NJ Transit buses and commuter trains connect neighborhoods, while the Newark Light Rail links crucial parts of the city with nearby hubs. These services prioritize affordability and accessibility, ensuring mobility for all.
Private Transportation Alternatives
Prefer something more private? Ride-sharing giants like Uber and Lyft operate extensively in Newark, alongside traditional taxis. Emerging micro-mobility options, including e-scooters and bike-sharing programs, offer eco-friendly alternatives for short trips.
Regional Connections
Newark serves as a gateway to the Tri-State Area. From Newark Penn Station, you can access NJ Transit trains, Amtrak, and PATH services, seamlessly connecting to New York City, Jersey City, and beyond.
Newark Light Rail
Overview and Routes
The Newark Light Rail is a hidden gem for commuters. Spanning two main lines—the Newark City Subway and the Broad Street Extension—it links downtown Newark with areas like Bloomfield and Belleville. The system integrates well with NJ Transit buses and trains, making multi-modal trips straightforward.
Benefits of the Light Rail
Why choose the Light Rail? For one, it’s cost-effective and environmentally friendly. It also saves time by bypassing traffic congestion, making it a favorite for daily commuters.
Bus Services in Newark
NJ Transit Buses
NJ Transit operates an extensive bus network in Newark Airport. Popular routes like the 25 and 62 cater to key areas, including Newark Penn Station and the airport. These buses are equipped with accessibility features, ensuring everyone can travel comfortably.
Private Bus Options
Private shuttles and charter buses offer additional flexibility, especially for group travel or special events. Companies like Megabus and Greyhound also connect Newark to other major cities.
Train Services in Newark
NJ Transit Commuter Trains
For those commuting to nearby cities, NJ Transit commuter trains are the go-to option. They provide frequent service to New York City, Hoboken, and Jersey City. With competitive ticket prices, these trains are both practical and economical.

The AirTrain is a lifeline for airport travelers. This automated monorail connects Newark Liberty International Airport terminals with NJ Transit and Amtrak services, ensuring stress-free transfers.
Public Transit to the Airport
Buses and trains also provide direct access to the airport at a fraction of the cost of private rides. The NJ Transit 62 bus, for example, links downtown Newark to EWR in under 30 minutes.
Ride-Sharing and Taxis in Newark
Uber and Lyft
Uber and Lyft dominate Newark’s ride-sharing landscape, offering convenient, app-based solutions for getting around the city. These car services to newark airport not uber or lyft are perfect for travelers seeking flexibility, with options ranging from economy to luxury rides. Prices vary based on demand and distance, but ride-sharing is often more cost-effective than traditional taxis. Pro tip: Use promotional codes or apps like Hopper to snag discounts, especially during peak times.
Traditional Taxis
Traditional yellow and black taxis remain a dependable option in Newark. You’ll find taxi stands at Newark Penn Station, Newark Liberty International Airport, and popular hotels. While they can be pricier than ride-sharing options, taxis offer fixed rates for certain routes, eliminating surprises. Just ensure you confirm the fare before starting your journey.
Micro-Mobility Options in Newark
Bike-Sharing Programs
CitiBike, one of the leading bike-sharing programs, has expanded its presence in Newark. These bikes are stationed across the city, making it easy to grab one for short trips. Riding a bike is not just eco-friendly—it’s also a fantastic way to soak in the sights of Newark’s bustling streets and scenic parks. With affordable hourly rates and passes, bike-sharing is ideal for commuters and casual riders alike.
Electric Scooters
E-scooters are the latest buzz in urban transportation. Companies like Lime and Bird provide these easy-to-use scooters in key parts of Newark. You’ll need to download the app, locate a nearby scooter, and zip off to your destination. Just remember to follow local regulations, wear a helmet, and park responsibly to keep the sidewalks clear for pedestrians.
Regional Transit Connections
PATH Trains
PATH trains connect Newark with Jersey City and Manhattan, offering a fast, efficient option for commuters. Running from Newark Penn Station to destinations like the World Trade Center, PATH trains are a lifeline for those working or exploring in New York. With trains operating every few minutes during peak hours, PATH ensures minimal wait times and maximum convenience.
Connections to Nearby Cities
Newark is perfectly situated for regional travel. NJ Transit and private bus services provide seamless access to nearby cities like Hoboken, Elizabeth, and Union City. These connections make Newark an excellent base for exploring the rest of New Jersey and beyond.
Tips for Navigating Newark’s Transit System
Using Transit Apps
Transit apps are game-changers for navigating Newark’s network. Apps like NJ Transit’s MyTix and Google Maps provide real-time updates, route planning, and ticketing options. If you’re exploring beyond Newark, apps like Citymapper can guide you through multi-modal trips with ease.
Safety and Etiquette
Traveling in Newark’s transit system is safe and straightforward, but a few tips go a long way. Keep your belongings secure, avoid rush-hour crowds, and be courteous to fellow passengers. Small gestures, like giving up your seat to someone in need, can make everyone’s journey more pleasant.
Conclusion
Newark’s transit system in 2024 offers an impressive mix of convenience, connectivity, and sustainability. Whether you’re a daily commuter or a first-time visitor, options like the Light Rail, NJ Transit buses, and PATH trains ensure you can get where you need to go efficiently. Bangaloreans ka Dabba Gul
The Mumbai Dabbawalas are a remarkable example of an efficient food delivery service that has been operating in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai since the late 1800s. Their primary function is to deliver home-cooked meals from customers’ homes to their workplaces, catering primarily to the city's office workers who crave the comfort of home-cooked food during their busy workdays. The Dabbawalas managed to deliver around 200,000 meals daily, relying on a complex yet effective logistical framework that incorporates traditional methods with an understanding of the local urban landscape. Each Dabbawala is responsible for picking up tiffin boxes filled with freshly prepared meals in the morning, which are then sorted and delivered to the correct locations using a unique color-coded system. This coding system allows them to identify the destination of each tiffin at a glance, ensuring that deliveries are completed with remarkable accuracy. The entire process, from collection to delivery, is meticulously timed, with most Dabbawalas finishing their rounds in under six hours, thanks to their deep familiarity with the city’s geography and public transportation systems.
Transportation plays a crucial role in the Dabbawalas' operations. They primarily take advantage of the city’s local train system to cover greater distances quickly. This multi-modal approach not only increases their efficiency but also allows them to avoid the heavy traffic that can often paralyze the city. Each Dabbawala typically handles around 30 to 40 tiffin’s each day, working in teams to streamline operations further. In recent years, the Mumbai Dabbawalas have faced several challenges that threaten their traditional business model. One significant issue is the increasing competition from modern food delivery services, such as Swiggy and Zomato, which offer a wide variety of cuisines and the convenience of online ordering through apps. These platforms have capitalized on the growing demand for diverse dining options and fast delivery times, drawing customers away from the Dabbawala system, which primarily focuses on home-cooked meals. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic posed unprecedented challenges, such as remote working arrangements which drastically reduced the number of office-goers in Mumbai, resulting in a substantial drop in daily deliveries. Furthermore, the increasing cost of living and inflation have impacted their earnings, as the cost of raw materials for the meals has risen, putting additional financial strain on both the Dabbawalas and their customers.
Task at Hand
The Mumbai Dabbawalas have decided to expand to Bangalore and as the CEO of Mumbai Dabbawallas plan your expansion strategy for introducing the service in the ‘IT Hub of India’
Deliverables

2. Phase Wise Implementation Plan & Growth Strategies

The Power of Experiences Per Mile Webinars and EPM Advisory Council Events
As the automotive and mobility industries undergo rapid transformation, the focus is shifting beyond horsepower, efficiency, or even electrification. Today, it’s about the experience of every mile traveled. That’s the core belief behind ExperiencesPerMile (EPM), a thought-leadership initiative championing the value of user experiences in the evolving mobility ecosystem.
Through groundbreaking Experiences Per Mile Webinars and high-level EPM Advisory Council Events, EPM is helping automakers, tech leaders, and mobility innovators reimagine how people perceive and engage with transportation.
What is ExperiencesPerMile?
ExperiencesPerMile is more than just a buzzword — it’s a strategic framework that redefines how we evaluate the value of mobility. In an age where consumers expect more personalized, connected, and seamless experiences, traditional metrics like miles per gallon are no longer enough. Instead, the focus has turned to how each mile is experienced by the user.
Whether it’s a digitally immersive infotainment system, intuitive driver-assistance technologies, or frictionless vehicle access through shared mobility platforms, ExperiencesPerMile emphasizes experience as a critical differentiator in a highly competitive market.
Tumblr media
Why EPM Matters Now More Than Ever
In a world increasingly dominated by digital interaction and customer-centric solutions, the automotive industry must keep pace. Connected vehicles, autonomous systems, electrification, and shared mobility are converging to reshape how people move — and more importantly, how they feel during that movement.
That’s where EPM steps in. It’s a framework that prioritizes emotion, personalization, and engagement over simple utility. And in 2025, when Gen Z consumers are entering the car-buying market and urban mobility is exploding, this perspective couldn’t be more timely.
EPM Webinars: Where Vision Meets Innovation
One of the most effective ways that ExperiencesPerMile spreads its mission is through the Experiences Per Mile Webinars. These live and on-demand sessions bring together thought leaders from across the automotive and tech industries to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in user experience.
Each webinar tackles a crucial aspect of modern mobility — from digital twin technologies to in-cabin personalization and EV adoption. What makes these webinars so valuable is their commitment to real-world insights, not just theory.

Each of these webinars draws hundreds of participants, from engineers to CX strategists, proving that Experiences Per Mile Webinars are a hub for learning, networking, and innovation.
EPM Advisory Council Events: Shaping the Strategic Vision
While the webinars are public-facing and educational, the EPM Advisory Council Events operate at a more strategic level. These exclusive gatherings convene C-level executives, policymakers, technologists, and innovators who are actively steering the future of mobility.
The EPM Advisory Council is a curated group of industry leaders committed to advancing the EPM movement. Through a mix of virtual think tanks and in-person summits, members collaborate on the most pressing issues in the mobility experience domain.
What Happens at EPM Advisory Council Events?
At these events, participants:
Co-create industry standards for measuring and improving experiences per mile.
Discuss the regulatory implications of connected and autonomous vehicle technologies.
Share use cases of successful EPM implementation in vehicles, services, and infrastructure.
Develop whitepapers and insights that shape the global conversation on mobility experience.
One of the most notable recent EPM Advisory Council Events was the EPM Strategy Summit, where participants drafted a framework for integrating emotional analytics into in-cabin technologies. Another event, the EPM Policy Roundtable, brought together city planners and OEM executives to discuss how urban infrastructure can support experience-centric mobility.
Industry Impact and Community Growth
The dual-engine strategy of hosting Experiences Per Mile Webinars and EPM Advisory Council Events has had a profound impact on the industry. EPM has become a trusted source for not only knowledge but collaboration, helping to bridge the gap between traditional automakers and tech-forward mobility players.
Thanks to these platforms:
Automotive brands are designing more user-first interiors.
Tech firms are integrating more emotion-aware AI systems.
Mobility providers are creating frictionless ride-sharing experiences that prioritize passenger comfort.
EPM’s content and community initiatives are even influencing academic research and startup innovation, encouraging a generation of thinkers who view mobility through the lens of human experience, not just machine efficiency.
What’s Next for EPM?
Looking ahead, the EPM initiative shows no signs of slowing down. With more Experiences Per Mile Webinars scheduled for the year, and several high-impact EPM Advisory Council Events on the calendar, the focus will expand to include:
Sustainability as part of the user experience: How green technologies influence perception.
Multimodal experiences: Integrating last-mile solutions like e-scooters or drones into the EPM equation.
AI-driven personalization at scale: Using big data to fine-tune every micro-moment of mobility.
How to Get Involved
Whether you’re an executive, engineer, designer, or policy advocate, there are multiple ways to plug into the ExperiencesPerMile ecosystem:
Register for upcoming webinars to gain exclusive insights from industry pioneers.
Join the EPM Advisory Council to be part of strategic decision-making at the highest level.
Follow EPM on LinkedIn and YouTube to stay updated on the latest developments.
Engage in discussions using the hashtag #ExperiencesPerMile to join the growing global conversation.
Conclusion: Experience is the New Mileage
As vehicles become more autonomous, connected, electric, and shared, the human element must remain at the core. ExperiencesPerMile reminds us that technology is only as powerful as the experience it enables. By investing in platforms like the Experiences Per Mile Webinars and EPM Advisory Council Events, the mobility industry is paving a more intuitive, joyful, and impactful road ahead.
The journey isn’t just about getting from A to B anymore — it’s about how it feels every mile of the way.
